What is a Mini IVF

What is a Mini IVF

Sometimes less is more.

Mini, mild, micro, low stim IVF is back in the news again.

When compared to conventional IVF - mini is mighty and becoming more and more popular as women learn more about this option.

What’s Important to Know about Mini IVF

  • Mini IVF cycle time is usually shorter.

  • It’s suitable for most women (PCOS too).

  • You’ll generally take less medications (less injections).

  • Less medications = less out of pocket costs.

  • Your risk of OHSS (hyperstimulation of your ovaries is minimized).

  • IVF success rates are similar to conventional IVF.

  • IVF success rates are similar to conventional IVF.

  • IVF success rates are similar to conventional IVF (I think this is worth repeating).

Sounds very appealing but unfortunately not all clinics offer this option. When my clients have asked about it they’ve were told the evidence is inconclusive. But recent analysis of the evidence suggest that minis should be more widely available.

It seems logical that as clinical evidence, practices and technology advances those benefits get passed on to you in the form of individualized care. With a ‘mini’ you’re getting all of the upside (similar IVF success rates) but without the added costs and added risks. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Have you heard of mild/mini IVF? Is it offered in your clinic?
