Hi.

I’m Tracy, infertility survivor, mom to 2 boys, midwife and fertility coach.

Welcome to my blog.

Increase Sperm Motility

Increase Sperm Motility

So, you're looking to boost your boys' swimming skills. Sperm motility refers to the ability of sperm to move or “swim.”  Healthy sperm move forward with a progression of at least 25 micrometers per second. If a high percentage of your sperm don’t move forward efficiently, the chances of sperm reaching the egg are lower.  (I know there’s a joke in there about men and following directions) ;)

Normal Sperm Motility

Did you know that a single ejaculation from a guy with normal fertility contains tens of millions of enthusiastic sperm? That's right, all racing to reach the finish line in hopes of fertilizing an egg. Talk about a crowded competition. It's amazing how much life can be packed into such a small, uh, package. However, not all of those sperm are expected to be completely healthy. To be considered normal, at least 40% of the sperm should be moving in some regard and at least 32% of the sperm should show progressive straight line motility.

Increase Sperm Motility Naturally

First up, let's talk about your lifestyle habits. Are you a couch potato, munching on junk food and binge-watching Netflix? Well, it's time to kick those habits to the curb and start living like an athlete. Get up, get moving, and start fueling your body with healthy foods. Your sperm will thank you for it (and so will your partner).

Next, let's address the elephant in the room: alcohol and drugs. I get it, they can be a fun time. But if you want your swimmers to perform at their best, it's time to cut back on the booze and ditch the drugs. Your future offspring will appreciate it (as well as your partner).

What about supplements? There are a variety of vitamins and minerals that can help improve sperm motility, such as vitamin C, zinc, and selenium. No need to go overboard with the supplements, or you can end up with some seriously expensive pee.

Lastly, let's talk about sex (finally, right?). The more you do it, the better your sperm motility will be. Turns out, sex is not just a fun activity, it's also a great motivator for sperm! Research suggests that regular sexual activity can increase sperm motility - it's like giving them a pep talk before the big race.

All of these factors take time to impact your boys. Sperm take approximately 60-90 days to develop.  So be sure to stick with any dietary and lifestyle changes for 90+ days for the optimal results.

So if you want your sperm to be the Michael Phelps of the reproductive world, it's time to start treating your body like a temple. Eat right, exercise, lay off the booze and drugs, take some supplements, and get busy in the bedroom. Your future offspring (and your ego) will thank you for it.
